The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is looking for a new secretary-general and is soliciting nominations from ISO membership worldwide.
ISO Secretary-General – Call for Applications
A letter from ISO Vice-President (Policy) John Walter addressed to the chief executive officers of ISO member bodies, correspondent members, and subscriber members and posted online titled “ISO Secretary-General – Call for Applications,” called for action by ISO members to encourage staff and colleagues to consider applying for the position.
The letter also announced that ISO had retained executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates to assist in their search.
According to the position specification, the role of ISO secretary-general has two functions: secretary-general of the organization and chief executive officer of the ISO Central Secretariat (ISO/CS). The responsibilities of the position include:
- Driving the implementation of a long-term strategy, approved by the ISO General Assembly
- Supporting the ISO members managing the decentralized standards development activities performed by more than 3,000 ISO committees and working groups
- The preparation and execution of yearly budgets and medium term financial orientations,
approved by the ISO Council.
- The management of the ISO Central Secretariat based in Geneva
Candidates for the position should have extensive senior level management experience, including proven leadership of an international member-based organization. Candidates should also be fluent in English, with skills in the other official languages, French and Russian, being an advantage. The compensation levels for the position are “comparable and competitive with equivalent high-level executive positions” in Geneva. Successful candidates will also be required to reside in Geneva as well as travel extensively. The position will be appointed by the ISO Council for a five-year term, eligible at the ISO Council’s option, for one additional term.
