The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the World Trade Organizations and the United Nations, has partnered with the World Alliance for Quality, an organization fostering international cooperation for issues related to quality, to launch the Global Platform for Quality, a joint outreach platform to enable small and medium-sized organizations to meet the growing technical requirements of quality standards.
Global Platform for Quality
The Global Platform for Quality was launched in June at the 60th European Organization for Quality Congress in Helsinki, Finland, with the goal of providing access to talent and expertise, advisory services, certification, professional development, and other needed support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Global Platform for Quality will assist in the development of local support institutions to offer enhanced services to SMEs. This will include issue-specific support giving local experts access to international talent and expertise, creating a global network of service providers for SMEs in developing countries.
“Given the increasing pressure on exporting SMEs in developing countries to competitively comply with a multitude of quality-related regulations, standards and other market-access requirements, there is an urgent need for a rapid, innovative, and effective transfer of knowledge and know-how to businesses on best practices in quality management,” said Marcos Vaena, head of enterprise competitiveness at the International Trade Centre.
About the World Alliance for Quality
The World Alliance for Quality includes the world’s foremost quality organizations: the European Organization for Quality (EOQ), the International Academy for Quality (IAQ), the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE), and the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
Among the stated purposes of the World Alliance for Quality is to be aware of the need for continuing developments and innovation to support global quality improvement initiatives at both the individual member and organizational levels.
